Experimental State Quarterly Gross Domestic Product 2007-2013

On August 20, 2014 at 8:30 a.m. Eastern Standard Time, the U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis (BEA) will issue new prototype data on state gross domestic product (GDP) by calendar quarter, from 2007 through 2013.

The new quarterly data will give states a much more timely picture of economic trends than is currently possible.

The official GDP series will begin in 2015, with releases planned for within five months following the end of each quarter.  BEA plans to include data for 21 broadly-defined industries (versus the 81 industries included in the annual state GDP).

BEA explained these new data in a September 2013 article in their monthly publication, Survey of Current Business, entitled “A First Look at Experimental Quarterly Gross Domestic Product by State.”

When issued, the news release will be available on the BEA Regional Economic Accounts site.
